Karangu Wa Muraya has recently faced allegations of misappropriating funds intended to support the family of the late Esther Wanjiku, also known as Githithi. Esther was a renowned Kikuyu gospel artist who tragically passed away early last year. Following her demise, her family found themselves grappling with financial hardships, prompting them to seek assistance from well-wishers.
In response to the family’s dire situation, Karangu initiated a fundraising effort through his Facebook page with the objective of constructing a home for them. However, as it became evident that Esther’s mother and her grandchildren were still residing in subpar living conditions, suspicions arose, accusing Karangu of embezzling the donated funds intended for their aid.
Karangu has since addressed these allegations by vehemently asserting his innocence. He clarified that he did not misappropriate the funds but encountered limitations due to the family’s land tenure status. Consequently, he opted to build a modest Mabati house for them instead of a permanent structure.
Furthermore, Karangu shed light on the underlying issues within Esther’s family, emphasizing that internal conflicts and disputes among family members have played a significant role in perpetuating their economic struggles. Despite channeling the contributions towards their welfare, these familial divisions have hindered the family’s ability to escape poverty.
